1.2.Connection between ISP in Vietnam
There are 2 types of connection
• Connection to VNIX
• Connection between ISPs directly (peering)
1.2.1. VNIX – Vietnam National Internet eXchange (VNIX)
is a system of transferring domestic Internet traffic between Internet service providers (ISPs) VNIX has been working effectively in 3 regions of the country: the North (Ha Noi city), South (Ho Chi Minh city),the Middle (Da Nangcity).
Benefit of VNIX
• Cost savings for ISPs
• Using direct connections to other ISPs increases a lot of connections. To reduce the number of the connections just connects to VNIX, to be able to connect to the others.
• Domestic Internet traffic goes directly to other ISPs via VNIX (do not go through international).
VNIX is deployed in 3 regions to ensure that the domestic Internet traffic between the ISP is transferd smoothly.

• ISP connect directly to VNIX by establish a peering connection eBGP with RS of VNIX
• VNIX RS will manage and exchange routing informantion with border router of other ISP, connected to VNIX
• Internet bandwidth is pass between border router of ISPs and center Switch of VNIX.

- ASN
ASN (Autonomous System Number) is collection of connected Internet Protocol (IP) routing prefixes under the control of one or more network operators that presents a common, clearly defined routing policy to the Internet.

2.2. Process to register an ASN
Send the profile to VietNam? Internet Center, include
• “Application to get ASN”, the form we will get from VNNIC
• Business registration
To VietNam? Internet Center : 18 – Nguyen Du – Ha Noi
After 15 days, we will get the result from them.
- How to get IPv4/IPv6
• We send the profile to VietNam? Internet Center, the form of profile we will get from VNNIC (http://www.vnnic.vn/diachiip)
• VNNIC will evaluate our profile (3days)
• If they accept our profile they will send us the notice to pay the fee. If not, we will have to rebuild our profile and send it again
• We pay the fee for the IP
• VNNIC send the request to APNIC (2 day)
• APNIC reevaluate. The evaluation period will depend on the size of the address block. If it is large than /17 IPv4, we and VNNIC will have to work together to explanation to APNIC.
• APNIC answer the request to VNNIC. The real number of IPs will depend on the evaluation of VNNIC and reevaluation of APNIC.
• VNNIC send the result to us, include of a account and we officially become a IP address member of VNNIC.
Note : since 15/4/2011, the last /8 IPv4 block was allocated. So
• VNNIC will not accept request for ip address block larger than /22
• Each organization will be allocated 1 time with only one block of IPv4 address, max is /22
